Bieber Fever: From YouTube Sensation to Teen Pop Superstar

Before Justin Bieber became the well-known pop star that he is today, it was his mother, Pattie Mallette, who uploaded his different performances of popular R&B songs, particularly his rendition of Ne-Yo’s So Sick that he sang for a local singing competition in Stratford where he placed second. His mother was only 18 when she conceived him and raised him as a single mother, though Bieber has kept constant communication with his father, Jeremy Bieber. Growing up, he taught himself how to play different instruments such as the piano, drums, guitar and the trumpet. His mother continuously uploaded videos of his different covers of R&B songs on YouTube where his popularity grew, getting uploaded to different social networking sites and the like.

How Did Justin Bieber Become Famous
In 2008, Scooter Braun, in search for new and fresh talents, clicked on a Justin Bieber link that brought him to a So Sick video by accident, and was thoroughly impressed. Braun tracked him down to his school and the theater where he was performing, then contacted Mallette who was reluctant at first because she wanted a Christian label to sign him. But after being encouraged by her church elders, she allowed her son to fly to Atlanta to record some demo tapes. Bieber then sang for R&B singer/songwriter Usher, who then signed him to the Raymond Braun Media Group (RBMG). Usher organized an audition for Bieber and L.A. Reid of the Island Def Jam Music Group then signed Bieber to Island Records.

The hit single One Time was already released even before his debut album was finished. The song reached number 12 on the Canadian Hot 100 on its first week, then peaking at 17 on the Billboard Hot 100. The Justin Bieber One Time song then became an international success, not only reaching Platinum in Canada and the U.S. but also reaching Gold in Australia and New Zealand. By November 2009, only four months after releasing his single, the first album My World was released.

To promote the album Justin Bieber performed in a variety of live talk shows like The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Its On with Alexa Chung, Good Morning America, among others. The second half of his album aptly named My World 2.0 is making the same marks as his first album did. He is simultaneously recording his second album to be released in 2001 and finishing a concert tour that will end in December 2010.

The rise of Justin Bieber to a Teen Pop sensation has always been attributed to YouTube or even to Usher discovering him. But when looking at the root of it all, it was his mother who uploaded each and every performance her child had, and it was her incessant support of her son that led to Braun or even Usher to discover the innate talent Bieber had. In the end, you can definitely say that his number one music fan will always be his mother.
